About the Scheme
The Trustee
The initial board for Cadent Gas Pension Scheme is as follows:
Employer-Nominated Trustees (ENTs)
- Harry Baines
Harry is an experienced Chair of a number of pension schemes including currently the Board of Lloyds Banking Group Pensions Trustees Limited, the Corporate Trustee responsible for five pension schemes with over 250,000 members and assets of c. £50 billion. Harry’s prior experience includes over 20 years in senior executive roles in major UK public companies across a range of sectors with significant emphasis on governance, risk management and controls.
- Janine Wood
Janine is a director of ITS Ltd (Independent Trustee Services) taking trustee appointments on behalf of the firm, since 2015. Janine is a qualified actuary with over 23 years of experience in the pensions industry and acts as a trustee for a wide variety of pension schemes.
- Mark Belmega
Mark is Director of Customer Strategy, which includes direct accountability for Cadent’s customer safeguarding strategy supporting customers in vulnerable situations to stay warm and independent in their homes. Mark is a non-executive director on the Board of Affordable Warmth Solutions, a community interest business that supports thousands of Individuals each year through multiple solutions who are living in fuel poverty. Mark has worked for Cadent and its predecessor companies for 19 years and has held numerous senior roles across the organisation. Mark is an active member of CGPS and is a newly appointed Trustee.
- Sarah Burke
Sarah is Senior Transition Manager within the Business Change and Transition team, part of the CFO function. Sarah is an active member of CGPS and a newly appointed trustee. Sarah has worked for Cadent and its predecessor companies for 21 years in a variety of roles. She is a qualified accountant.
Appointed Member-Nominated Trustees (MNTs)
- Hilary Speller
Hilary is currently an MNT for the NGUKPS, elected by Section C members. Hilary has been a Trustee since 2018 and has been a member of the Funding and Investment Committee and the Governance Committee of the NGUKPS. Hilary joined the gas industry as a graduate trainee in South-Eastern Gas before transferring to the HQ pension fund investment team which became Aerion. She subsequently spent a number of years working for City-based organisations in fund management and consulting roles.
- Phil Brown
Phil is currently an MNT for the NGUKPS, elected by Section C members. Phil has been a Trustee since 2018 and has been a member of the Funding and Investment Committee of the NGUKPS. Phil is a chartered engineer and retired from National Grid after 34 years spent mainly in the Gas Distribution business undertaking operational and asset management roles. Phil is a Pensioner member of the Scheme.
- Sue Ellwood
Sue joined British Gas as a graduate Mechanical Engineer and worked for 10 years for Cadent’s predecessor companies, British Gas and Transco, mainly in Grid Control, Commercial Operations and Network Code development. Sue has subsequently worked for nearly 20 years as a freelance consultant for a large variety of gas industry organisations on a wide range of projects and has a particular interest in sustainability and the transition to net zero. Sue is a deferred member of the Scheme.
- Stephen Willmott
Stephen was a professionally qualified Incorporated Gas Engineer and Operational Manager, encompassing every aspect of the Operational Gas Engineering field, before he retired from his role as a Network Officer for the Distribution Department, after completing 45 years service. During his employment Stephen served as a Pension Panel Member for 3 years and a Pension Representative for 12 years. Stephen is a pensioner of the Scheme.
